Iran has warned that it will not accept any military activity by non-regional powers in the Strait of Hormuz, stressing that the strategically vital waterway should not become a stage for foreign military posturing.
Speaking on Friday, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister and head of the country’s negotiating team in talks with the United States in Switzerland, Kazem Gharibabadi, said responsibility for securing the Strait of Hormuz rests with the Gulf littoral states.
He cautioned that any provocative military activity in the region would carry consequences, adding that those responsible would bear full responsibility for the outcome.
Meanwhile, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf announced that Tehran and Oman have reached an understanding on managing navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. He said the arrangement would not involve the United States and that coordination with other Gulf coastal states would take place during its implementation.
On the same day, Iran’s Acting Defense Minister, Brig. Gen. Majid Ebn Al-Reza, said any attempt to violate the ceasefire would be met with an immediate response. He added that Iran’s armed forces remain fully prepared to deal with any situation.
