The results for the assembly elections in five Indian states, including West Bengal, are being announced today, May 4, 2026. Vote counting began at 8:00 AM amid tight security. Following the initial counting of postal ballots, Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) trends have started to emerge.
Current data shows a significant lead for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 155 seats, while the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) is ahead in 121 seats. Observers believe a clearer picture of the final outcome will emerge by early afternoon.
Tight Contest in Kerala: UDF Leading, LDF Following Closely
In Kerala, after a decade of Left Democratic Front (LDF) rule, the state is witnessing a fierce neck-and-neck battle. Early trends suggest a potential shift in power as the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) has taken an initial lead.
Out of the 140 assembly seats, the UDF is currently leading in approximately 60 seats, while the incumbent LDF is ahead in about 50 seats. While several exit polls predicted a UDF victory, the actual contest remains extremely close as counting progresses.
