Washington is not carrying out any military strike on Iran on Sunday, local time. US President Donald Trump himself told this to journalists. However, he did not give any assurance that there would be no attack in the future.
Trump spoke to journalists before leaving the White House for Michigan on Sunday. When asked whether there would be an attack on Iran, he said, "The answer is no. There will be no attack today."
Earlier, Trump had indicated that the United States had two paths regarding Iran. One was reaching an understanding with Tehran. The other was launching another military operation against Iran.
Amid such a situation, Qatari mediators visited Tehran on Sunday to reduce tensions. The initiative was taken in coordination with the United States, Reuters reported, citing a relevant source.
However, it was not known whether any immediate progress was made through Qatar's mediation.
Earlier, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian blamed Washington for the failure of talks on an interim agreement. However, he said efforts to reach an understanding should continue.
Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf also criticized the United States. He claimed that Washington had miscalculated when the war began. He said the United States itself must take steps to resolve the crisis that has now arisen.
However, Tehran has said the path of diplomacy is still open. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei said that although talks are stalled, messages are being exchanged between Iran and the United States through mediators.
Amid this diplomatic activity, tensions persist in the Middle East. Yemen's Houthis have continued missile and drone attacks on Saudi Arabia.
Saudi authorities also said on Sunday that they had intercepted several attacks. On the same day, Riyadh's King Khalid International Airport resumed operations on a limited scale.
Trump's latest remarks have temporarily eased fears of an immediate US strike on Iran on Sunday. However, it is still unclear whether the United States and Iran will be able to reach a new understanding.
