The new Hollywood movie The End of Oak Street is set to be released internationally on August 14. The movie will also be released at Star Cineplex in Bangladesh on the same day. The End of Oak Street combines science fiction, mystery and survival thriller elements.
Directed by David Robert Mitchell, the movie stars Anne Hathaway, Ewan McGregor, Maisy Stella, Christian Convery and others. They play members of a family who begin noticing unusual events around them, including the appearance of prehistoric creatures.
The story centers on the Platt family. They live in a suburban neighborhood in the 1980s. One day, a mysterious cosmic event suddenly occurs. After the strange incident, their entire Oak Street seems to have been uprooted from its normal place on Earth and transported somewhere else. Their house, the street and the entire surrounding environment have changed. At first, the family cannot understand what has happened. But when they venture outside, they discover that the familiar suburban neighborhood is gone.
In front of Oak Street stands a vast, unfamiliar jungle. The end of the street appears to stop at the edge of a huge ravine. The surroundings have become prehistoric, and most frightening of all, dinosaurs are roaming around. The movie then becomes a story of a family’s struggle to survive. They try to find food, stay safe and protect their children. But the dinosaurs are not their only problem. The unfamiliar environment and tensions within the family also become major challenges.
However, the filmmakers have kept the answers to the most important questions secret. How did Oak Street end up in another world? Have they really traveled back in time? Where did the dinosaurs come from? Will the family be able to return to their own world? Based on the trailer and the information released so far, the movie is not simply a story about escaping from dinosaurs. The central mystery is why the mysterious event happened in the first place.
Director David Mitchell has said that the concept of the movie was largely inspired by the suburban area where he grew up. As a child, while walking around his neighborhood in Michigan, even ordinary alleys, garages or the end of a street seemed mysterious and almost like places belonging to another world to him. That feeling became part of the concept behind the movie. He did not simply want to make a dinosaur movie. His goal was to bring something unusual and frightening into a familiar, ordinary family environment.
The director is also enthusiastic about Anne Hathaway’s performance in the movie. He said Hathaway was extraordinary in the family’s dramatic scenes, but when mystery, fear and danger enter the story, she takes her performance to another level. Mitchell believes she was able to convincingly portray strength, fear and helplessness within the character all at once.
