Vote counting is currently in progress for the legislative assembly elections across four Indian states, including West Bengal, as well as one Union Territory.
Counting began at 8 AM under tight security. Postal ballots are being counted first, followed by votes cast through EVMs.
In neighboring Assam, the ruling BJP appears to be heading toward a decisive victory. The tenure of Chief Minister Himanta Sharma is set to be extended for another five years.
Early trends show that out of 126 seats, the BJP is leading in 65 seats, while the Congress is ahead in only 18 seats.
The BJP has already crossed the majority mark of 64 seats required to form the government.
