The United States has claimed to have shot down Iranian attack drones in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's key routes for global energy trade.
Early Sunday, the United States Central Command (CENTCOM) said its forces had intercepted and destroyed two Iranian one-way attack drones in the Strait of Hormuz, describing them as a threat to international maritime traffic.
CENTCOM further stated that the US military remains prepared to continue deterring Iranian aggression.
Tensions in the Middle East have intensified again amid a deadlock between Iran and the United States over a peace agreement, with both sides reportedly engaging in clashes on Saturday.
Iran claimed it had launched attacks on two US airbases in Kuwait and facilities of the US Fifth Fleet in Bahrain in response to what it described as recent US aggression.
Meanwhile, the United States said it targeted Iranian surveillance facilities after Iran launched drone attacks aimed at ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz. According to CENTCOM, Iran had deployed four drones targeting vessels in the waterway. Shortly afterward, US forces struck surveillance sites on Iran’s Goruck and Qeshm islands.
