U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that he is contemplating a new proposal sent by Iran to Washington aimed at a permanent peace treaty. He shared this information on Saturday night local time through a post on his social media platform, Truth Social.
Trump wrote that he will soon be reviewing the plan that Iran has just sent, but added that he does not believe it will be accepted because he feels Iran has not yet paid a high enough price for what they have done to humanity and the world over the last 47 years.
Shortly before making the post, while boarding Air Force One in Florida, Trump told reporters that he would update them on the matter later.
Following reports from Iranian state media that a 14-point proposal had been sent to the United States, Trump clarified that they had informed him about the concept of the deal and would now provide the specific language.
Previously, on Friday, Trump had remarked that it might be better for the U.S. not to make a deal at all because the current situation could not be allowed to continue. However, in Florida, Trump denied making that specific statement.
Trump further explained his position, saying that if the conflict were to end now, it would take Iran 20 years to rebuild their country, but noted that they are not at the end of the conflict yet.
