A United States Army Apache helicopter gunship has crashed near the Strait of Hormuz, which is under Tehran’s strategic control. However, the two crew members on board were safely rescued.
According to The New York Times, citing two officials familiar with the matter, the incident occurred on Monday. It was not immediately clear whether the helicopter crashed due to Iranian fire, mechanical failure, or another cause.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump told reporters Monday night at New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport that the two pilots were doing well.
Trump said, “The pilots are fine. Yes, nobody was hurt. We will release a report on this tomorrow. But the pilots are doing well.”
As of Tuesday morning, the cause of the helicopter crash remained unclear. Iranian state-run media reported the incident, citing foreign news sources, but did not provide further details.
The United States military’s United States Central Command (CENTCOM) and the Department of Defense did not immediately respond to media requests for comment on the matter.
