Hurricane
Isaias, the first hurricane of this year’s Atlantic season, has strengthened
and will make landfall over the coming days.
Early on Thursday
morning, the storm intensified into a category one hurricane carrying sustained
wind speeds exceeding 80 mph (129 km/h). Authorities expect the system to
strike parts of the US Gulf Coast on Friday or Saturday, bringing damaging
winds, torrential rain, and a dangerous storm surge.
