Nahid Rana wins ICC Player of the Month award
Bangladesh pace sensation Nahid Rana is enjoying a sensational start to his international career. In recognition of his outstanding performance in the ODI series against New Zealand, he has been named the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for April. ICC officially announced the award on Thursday.
In the three-match ODI series against New Zealand, Rana took eight wickets. Earlier in March, he also claimed eight wickets in the ODI series against Pakistan. In the second ODI against the Kiwis, he produced a match-winning spell of 5 for 32; his second five-wicket haul in his career. His devastating bowling helped Bangladesh secure a 2-1 series victory over New Zealand.
Across the three-match ODI series, Rana finished with a bowling average of 16.75 and an economy rate of 4.46, earning him the Player of the Series award as well. After receiving the ICC recognition, an elated Nahid Rana said, “It feels amazing to become the ICC Player of the Month after performing against a world-class team like New Zealand. I am happy to have contributed to my team’s victory at home. This achievement will always remain special to me.”
Expressing gratitude toward his teammates, Rana added, “I am grateful to my teammates for always believing in me. I hope to deliver more memorable performances and bigger wins for the team in the future.”
Notably, Rana’s rise has been a major boost for Bangladesh’s pace attack. In the ongoing Test series against Pakistan, he also took a five-wicket haul in the second innings of the first Test, guiding his side to victory. His express pace and swing have troubled Pakistani batters significantly. All eyes will now be on Rana in the upcoming Sylhet Test.
