Infantino accused of ‘blackmail’

He is facing a growing wave of criticism. FIFA President Gianni Infantino appears to have become increasingly cornered. This time, President of the Jordan Football Association Ali Bin has accused Infantino of ‘blackmail.’ He claimed that FIFA offered to help resolve Jordan’s problems in exchange for supporting Infantino.

Bin Hussein alleged that FIFA had refused to provide assistance on various issues for several months. Then, during the World Cup, FIFA verbally informed them that it would help the Jordan Football Association only if it supported Infantino.

Writing on social media platform X, Bin Hussein said, “In Jordan, we pride ourselves on upholding moral values. We did not support Infantino before, and we will not support him now. But the whole matter is like blackmail, and we will not submit to it.”

The Jordanian football chief also made several other allegations. Among them were the additional money paid by fans for tickets despite not receiving US visas for the World Cup and not receiving the money for participating in the 2025 Arab Cup organized by FIFA.

Bin Hussein said that his association incurred significant expenses because it had to stay in the United States during this World Cup, costs that teams staying in Canada and Mexico did not have to bear.

Jordan qualified for the World Cup for the first time but was eliminated in the group stage.

Hussein also alleged that they had not received the prize money for reaching the final of the Arab Cup held in Qatar. He said, “The prize money our team was supposed to receive for reaching the final has still not been paid, while at the same time FIFA boasts about how many billions it has in its reserves.”
