Argentina are surging ahead at a blistering pace even without Lionel Messi. After defeating Bolivia 4-0, Lionel Scaloni’s side overwhelmed African opponents Burkina Faso with a goal fest at Estadio Monumental in Buenos Aires. The Albiceleste secured a commanding 7-0 victory.
The hosts played attacking football from the opening minutes. Lautaro Martinez missed a penalty in the third minute but put Argentina ahead from the rebound. Shortly afterward, the lead was doubled through an own goal by Burkina Faso’s Moumouni Diallo. Gianluca Prelimani in the 11th minute, Nico Paz in the 34th minute and Julian Alvarez in the 36th minute also found the scoresheet in the first half. Argentina went into the break with a 5-0 lead.
The world champions maintained their attacking momentum in the second half. Young sensation Franco Mastantuono extended the lead with a brilliant goal in the 57th minute. It was his first goal in an Albiceleste shirt. Juliano Simeone then scored in the 90th plus 2nd minute to complete the emphatic victory.
Scaloni’s test to sharpen his young players and prepare the team for a new cycle proved highly successful. Argentina left the field after another goal fest in front of their home supporters with a squad packed with emerging stars.
