There have been growing expectations that Cristiano Ronaldo may retire from international football after the 2026 World Cup. However, former Manchester United teammate Teddy Sheringham believes the Portuguese legend’s career is far from over.
Sheringham predicts that the 41-year-old forward could extend his professional career for another decade, potentially playing until the age of 50.
According to the former England striker, Ronaldo’s exceptional physical condition and strong mental discipline set him apart from other players and could allow him to continue performing at the highest level well beyond typical retirement age.
When asked whether Ronaldo could realistically play into his fifties, Sheringham said it would not surprise him, noting that the forward remains in outstanding shape at 41. He added that Ronaldo’s long-term commitment to training and his personal fitness team have kept him in peak condition for years, though he acknowledged that maintaining such a routine becomes increasingly difficult with age.
Sheringham said Ronaldo still has many years left to enjoy his career, noting that he continues to love the game. Although the league he currently plays in is not as competitive as Europe’s top competitions, Sheringham argued that as long as he keeps scoring goals and fans want to watch him, there is every reason for him to continue. He added that Ronaldo’s physical condition and fitness remain as strong as ever.
Portugal led by Ronaldo, will face Congo in their opening match tonight at 11:00 pm Bangladesh time.
