Did Ronaldo deserve such a farewell?

Cristiano Ronaldo
He is one of the greatest superstars in Portuguese and world football. Even at the age of 41, he is chasing the milestone of 1,000 career goals. That Cristiano Ronaldo has suddenly left Portugal’s training camp in Denmark! According to a report by Portuguese media outlet O Jogo, the 41-year-old superstar has decided to retire from international football.
His sudden departure from Portugal’s training camp in Denmark sparked widespread speculation in the football world. He left the camp at night following disagreements and a conflict with coach Jorge Jesus. Later, in a statement on Instagram, he said, “After discussions with the coach and the president of the Portuguese Football Federation, I decided to leave the national team training camp.”
He added, “In due time, I will tell all the people of Portugal the truth behind my departure from the national team. I gave everything I had to the national team. I will always wish Portugal and all my teammates the very best.” Although his statement did not directly announce his retirement, Portuguese media have confirmed that his chapter of playing for Portugal has come to a permanent end.
Since then, speculation has emerged about why the career of Ronaldo, who has scored 978 goals, appears to be heading toward such a poor ending. Rumors of his retirement from the national team had emerged after the last North American World Cup. However, surprising everyone, he announced some time ago that he would continue playing international football, a decision that many did not like. Many believe Ronaldo is no longer needed in the Portugal team. Some media outlets, however, have said it would not be surprising if Ronaldo returned again!
Ronaldo made his senior international debut for Portugal in 2003. During more than two decades with the national team, he has played a record 234 matches and scored 146 goals for his country. These are the all-time world records for most goals and appearances in men’s international football. Under his leadership, Portugal won the European Championship for the first time in 2016. The Euro title remains one of the greatest achievements in the country’s football history.
