The world of football is about to be shaken as the 2026 FIFA World Cup kicks off in just two days. Although Bangladesh is not participating in this World Cup, football fans in the country have received a special request. And this request has come from the Norwegian Embassy in Dhaka!
The Norwegian Embassy has posted a delightful appeal on social media regarding the upcoming World Cup. They have directly asked Bangladeshi supporters: "In FIFA World Cup 2026, Bangladesh should support Norway!"
Why support Norway all of a sudden? The embassy has provided several compelling reasons. They state that the two countries share many similarities beyond just football. The relationship between Bangladesh and Norway is built on a long history and friendship.
They recall an emotional memory: Norway was among the first countries to recognize Bangladesh after its independence. Additionally, the two nations have always worked shoulder to shoulder on major issues such as peacekeeping, development, and climate change.
There are also geographical similarities! According to Norway, both countries are riverine and sea-dependent, and their people deeply love nature and culture. And yes, the love for fish among the people of both countries is absolutely innate!
The embassy further wrote that although the two countries may be relatively small in size on the world stage, their dreams are big. Therefore, Bangladeshi supporters have been called upon to stand by Norway's side in this grand football festival.
For those who haven't yet decided which team to support in this World Cup, the Norwegian Embassy reminds them of a "trump card." The current football sensation and goal machine Erling Haaland could be the biggest attraction for choosing Norway!
At the end of the post, in a friendly and natural tone, the embassy writes: "So what do you say, Bangladesh? It's time to stand by the underdogs. Time to dream big together."
