Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has provided financial grant for the construction of the house of Ritu Porna Chakma, a star player of the Bangladesh National Women's Football Team.
The Prime Minister handed over the grant cheque to Ritu Porna Chakma on Tuesday afternoon at his office in the National Parliament building, during a break in the budget session. The event was attended by Youth and Sports Minister Aminul Haque, Minister for Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Mir Helal Uddin, Textiles and Jute Minister Shariful Alam, and President of the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) Tabith Awal.
The Prime Minister made this decision due to her outstanding contributions to the women's football team. She was a key pillar of the team in their SAFF Women's Championship victories in 2022 and 2024. Additionally, she played a crucial role in the campaign that secured Bangladesh's place in the final round of the AFC Women's Asian Cup for the first time in the country's history in 2025.
In 2025, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman had also provided necessary financial assistance for the treatment of Ritu Porna's mother, who was battling cancer.
