Trinamool Congress (TMC) All India General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee has not fully recovered following a recent attack in Sonarpur, West Bengal, India. As a result, he did not appear today at Bhavani Bhavan. According to party and investigative sources, he is currently resting on doctors’ advice.
Sources said that as part of an ongoing investigation into allegations of forged signatures of several TMC MLAs, Abhishek Banerjee had been summoned by the CID on Monday. However, due to his deteriorating health following the recent attack, he was unable to appear.
It is reported that several medical tests are still pending. Doctors have advised caution due to jaw pain, injuries on multiple parts of his body, and general physical weakness. Although he is willing to cooperate with the investigation, he may request additional time.
On Saturday, allegations emerged that Abhishek Banerjee was attacked while he was route to meet the family of a deceased TMC worker in Sonarpur. The TMC claims the attack was a deliberate attempt to obstruct and target their leader. Opposition parties have denied the allegation.
Following the incident, he was placed under medical observation on Sunday. Party sources said his condition has improved but he is not yet fully recovered. Therefore, he is likely to request a new date from the investigating agency. Political circles are closely watching his next steps and the CID’s response.
A senior TMC leader stated, “Abhishek Banerjee is not avoiding the investigation. He is resting on doctors’ advice and will cooperate with legal procedures once he recovers.”
TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh claimed that the attack on Abhishek Banerjee was not an isolated incident but part of a planned conspiracy.
He alleged that there were attempts to downplay the seriousness of the incident after the attack.
Kunal further said that Abhishek was seriously injured and had to be taken to hospital, adding that the entire country has condemned the incident.
He also raised questions on social media, noting that while leaders from various political parties had protested the attack, the silence of many TMC representatives and office-bearers had caught his attention. He expressed frustration over this silence as well.
