It is unlikely that the World Cup matches will be available in India but not in the neighboring country. Bangladesh has also taken all necessary initiatives to broadcast the World Cup. BTV has advanced significantly in the process of acquiring the broadcasting rights.
FIFA initially relied on the company Springbock to sell the World Cup rights in this region. Following the pattern of the Qatar World Cup, this Singapore-based company once again attempted to sell the rights at an exorbitant price in the country. To be honest, Bangladesh does not have a market that can afford to buy World Cup rights for $10 million.
As a result, FIFA was forced to lower the price. It now wants to sell the broadcasting rights for $4 million. However, the Bangladesh government still has objections. A special committee formed by the Ministry of Information has held several rounds of discussions regarding the purchase of the World Cup rights. They have also communicated with FIFA to cut the price further.
At the most recent meeting yesterday, Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapon was present. It is known that they are still negotiating to bring the price down from $4 million. In this regard, the Information Minister is scheduled to meet with Prime Minister Tareq Rahman today, Monday.
According to reliable sources, the World Cup matches will be shown on BTV. They have made preparations to acquire the rights. Once the price is reduced somewhat through negotiations, an official announcement will be made.
