Barcelona have temporarily closed the ‘Gol 1957’ stand at Camp Nou following controversy over the behavior of supporters during El Clasico.
The controversy arose over the conduct of fans in the stand during the match. Barcelona eventually decided to suspend access to the section.
Barcelona lost 2-1 to Real Madrid in the Clasico. Following the match, La Liga authorities submitted reports detailing 10 separate incidents involving the Catalan club’s supporters.
The most serious allegation involved Real Madrid’s French midfielder Eduardo Camavinga. According to La Liga’s report, a supporter in the Gol 1957 stand struck him with a flag while he was celebrating after the visitors scored the winning goal.
There were also allegations of offensive chants and insults directed at Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho and Marc Cucurella.
Following these allegations, Barcelona decided to take action against the supporters. According to the club, such behavior not only exposes it to the risk of financial penalties but also damages its reputation.
In a statement, Barcelona said, “The club and some of its members have become subject to several disciplinary investigations over conduct that goes against sporting values. Such behavior puts the club at risk of financial penalties and stadium closures. It also damages the club’s image.”
Club officials will meet representatives of Gol 1957 to resolve the issue. The meeting will focus on supporters’ behavior and securing commitments to prevent similar incidents in the future.
If the issue is resolved through discussions, the stand is expected to reopen for Barcelona’s home Champions League match against Aston Villa on November 3.
Gol 1957 is located in the lower section of Camp Nou’s south stand. It was named in memory of the year the stadium first opened. The section was first opened for organized supporter groups last March and has a capacity of 800 fans.
This is not the first time Barcelona have decided to close part of a stadium because of supporters’ behavior. In November 2024, while renovation work was underway at Camp Nou, Barcelona played their matches at the Olympic Stadium. The club also announced the indefinite closure of a section of that stadium following financial penalties over misconduct by supporters.
