Virat Kohli set another record in the second ODI against New Zealand today after achieving the record for the most runs against the Kiwis in ODIs. He had set a record for scoring the most runs while batting at No. 3 in the first ODI.
Kohli needed just one run to claim the latest record. He hit a boundary off the second ball he faced in his innings to become the highest run scorer against New Zealand in ODIs.
However, Kohli was dismissed after scoring just seven runs. He now has 1,977 runs in 38 matches against the Kiwis. The record previously belonged to Australian legend Ricky Ponting, who scored 1,971 runs in 51 matches. Sachin Tendulkar is third on the list with 1,750 runs in 42 matches against New Zealand.
Batting first in Wellington, New Zealand were bowled out for just 134 runs in 41 overs. Gurnoor Brar took four wickets. In reply, India scored 113 for seven in 26 overs. Play was then halted due to rain, and Shubman Gill’s team secured a four-run victory under the Duckworth Lewis method.
Kohli scored seven runs while Rohit Sharma made 23. Rohit also set a record for hitting the most sixes against New Zealand after smashing two sixes. He now has 51 sixes in 36 matches. Pakistan’s Shahid Afridi previously held the record with 50 sixes in 38 matches.
