The Portuguese Football Federation has taken an initiative to ease the tension surrounding Cristiano Ronaldo in the Portugal national team. Amid discussions and criticism over the past few days after Ronaldo left the national team camp, the Portuguese Football Federation has begun efforts to normalize the situation.

According to a report published by Spanish media outlet Marca on Friday, federation officials want to meet with Ronaldo next week. The meeting has been initiated with Ronaldo’s consent. They will also try to reduce the distance between the two sides with national team coach Jorge Jesus present.

The federation’s main goal is to normalize its relationship with Ronaldo and find a peaceful solution to the recent dispute. At the same time, it wants to keep open the possibility of him continuing his career with the national team. The federation also wants to ensure that recent events do not become the final chapter of Ronaldo’s international career.

Considering Ronaldo’s contribution to Portuguese football, federation officials also favor giving him a dignified farewell with the national team. Ronaldo has contributed to the national team for a long time as one of the biggest stars in Portuguese football. They want to resolve the issue while preserving that status.

However, the federation did not make any direct comment about Ronaldo after he left the national team camp on Tuesday. In a statement, it only said the team was fully focused on preparing for the upcoming matches. “The entire national team remains fully focused on the upcoming matches and achieving the set goals.”

After that, many believed the federation was angry with Ronaldo’s behavior and wanted to distance itself from him. The perception grew stronger after Rafael Leão was given Ronaldo’s No. 7 jersey in the match against Denmark the following day.

However, Marca’s report presented a different picture. The federation is working not to cut ties with Ronaldo but to resolve the ongoing dispute and normalize the situation.

There was also a regulatory reason behind giving Ronaldo’s No. 7 jersey to another player. According to UEFA rules, national team squad members in the Nations League must have jersey numbers from 1 to 23. Therefore, after Ronaldo left the camp, there was no option to leave his No. 7 jersey unused.

Meanwhile, Portugal is preparing for its final match of the ongoing international break. Portugal will face Norway on October 5 in its fourth group stage match of the Nations League. The effectiveness of the federation’s efforts to manage the situation surrounding Ronaldo before then remains to be seen.
