Mushfiqur Rahim and Najmul Hossain Shanto have stretched their second-innings partnership past the century mark in the Abu Dhabi Test. The duo remains unbeaten with a 130-run stand for the fourth wicket, with both batsmen reaching their respective half-centuries.
The morning of the third day belonged to the Bangladeshi pacers. Resuming at 211 for 4, Afghanistan was bundled out for 240, as Hasan Mahmud claimed a hat-trick en route to a five-wicket haul, complemented by Ebadot Hossain’s four wickets. The Afghans collapsed quickly in the opening session, losing their final six wickets for just 29 runs, while Rahmat Shah remained stranded at 105 not out.
In response, Bangladesh’s second innings got off to a cautious start with openers Shadman Islam and Tanjid Hasan Tamim before a sudden collapse saw them lose three wickets for 22 runs. After Mohammad Saleem provided the initial breakthrough, Yamin Ahmadzai struck twice to reduce Bangladesh from 31 for 0 to 53 for 3.
Mushfiqur and Shanto then stabilized the innings, grinding out runs in the desert conditions. At the end of 59 overs, Bangladesh reached 183 for 3, with Shanto batting on 54 and Mushfiqur on 75.
