Mbappé's double stuns Barcelona as Real Madrid wins

Kylian Mbappé scored twice to lead Real Madrid to a memorable 2-1 El Clásico victory over LaLiga leaders Barcelona, sending head coach Jose Mourinho sliding across the pitch on his knees in celebration.

The goal arrived in the 87th minute when Mbappé tucked home a cutback from Eduardo Camavinga following a brilliant piece of skill from Jude Bellingham. Celebrations erupted from Real Madrid as Mourinho lost control of his emotions, his staff rushed onto the pitch, and players clashed with Barcelona fans.

Earlier, Mbappé’s opening goal proved fortuitous after Gerard Martin slammed a clearance directly off him. Despite the bounce, Real Madrid built an excellent team move to create the chance, proving throughout the match that they could go toe-to-toe with their more favored hosts.

Controversy surfaced prior to Barcelona’s equalizer when Joao Cancelo escaped punishment for driving his studs into Yan Diomande’s calf. Raphinha then leveled the thrilling match with a snapshot, and Lamine Yamal narrowly clipped a shot wide as LaLiga’s defending champions pressed forward for a winner.

After absorbing pressure on defense, Real Madrid closed to within three points of their archrivals, while Atletico Madrid holds second place, just two points behind Barcelona. The defeat capped a grim week for manager Hansi Flick’s team, whose 11-game winning streak to start the season ended with a Champions League loss at Paris St-Germain.

This domestic defeat stings significantly more, representing Real Madrid’s first victory in Barcelona in three years and allowing Mourinho and his squad to celebrate at Spotify Camp Nou.
