Bangladesh dominates second session in Darwin, too

Apart from the opening hour, Australia have had little to show for themselves in the Darwin Test. Bangladesh have dominated the rest of the first day, taking control of the match.

Powered by their pace attack, Bangladesh have won both sessions so far. Australia went into the tea break at 183 for 8 after losing four wickets in each session.

Australia managed only 74 runs before lunch while losing four wickets. In the second session, Steven Smith’s half-century helped them add 109 runs to the total, but they again lost four wickets in the process.

Smith, who scored his 38th Test half-century, is carrying the Australian innings almost single-handedly. After being dropped on two, the experienced batter has made no further mistakes and remains unbeaten on 67.

There have been only two notable partnerships in Australia’s innings. Openers Travis Head (22) and Jake Weatherald (23) put together 45 runs, while Smith added 55 with Alex Carey for the fifth wicket.

Bangladesh’s pace bowlers have been outstanding, sharing all eight Australian wickets so far. Hasan Mahmud has taken four, while Taskin Ahmed and Ebadot Hossain have claimed two each.
