German magazine mocks Ronaldo in farewell message

Many have been sharing emotional messages following his departure. However, after Cristiano Ronaldo announced his retirement from international football with Portugal, German magazine ‘11 Freunde’ chose a different approach. The publication released a satirical German translation of the video in which the Portuguese star announced his retirement. The video was titled, “What Ronaldo Actually Never Said.”
In the five-minute video clip, Ronaldo bid farewell to international football while expressing gratitude to those who had supported him throughout his 23-year career. Following his announcement, former and current footballers as well as international media outlets paid tribute to the Portugal captain and praised his achievements.
‘11 Freunde’ published a video featuring a German translation written by Tobias Ahrens, who is known for his satirical writing. The magazine used some fictional statements to present Ronaldo’s farewell message in a different way.
In the translated version, Ronaldo is heard saying, “Guys, listen to me for a moment. Let me get straight to the point. I am retiring. I just wanted to thank you all, especially for joining me in that ridiculous ‘Siu’ celebration. I swear to you, at first it was nothing more than a bet with Marcelo. I thought grown men would not jump into the air, spin around and scream. But what did you do? You imitated me.”
The video also featured the following remarks: “Thank you for letting me take all the free kicks, even though the last one that actually went into the net was five years ago. And thank you for never laughing when I pulled my shorts up as high as possible until my kidneys were almost visible. It has been an absolute honor for me. Please take care of my records.”
