Over the past decade, a cricket match between India and Bangladesh has come to signify something much greater than just a game on the field. This time, however, Bangladesh bypassed India without even stepping onto the field against them. Bangladesh's series victory against Pakistan has ultimately cost India its position.
But how did this happen? By whitewashing Pakistan on home soil, Bangladesh has taken a massive leap in the World Test Championship standings. With two wins, one loss, and one draw from four matches, Bangladesh has moved up to fifth place with a points percentage of 58.33%.
On the other hand, Bangladesh's success has pushed India down to sixth place, with their points percentage sitting at 48.15%. From nine matches, India has managed four wins, four losses, and one draw.
Meanwhile, Pakistan, having suffered a whitewash at the hands of Bangladesh, languishes in eighth place out of the nine teams with a mere 8.33% points percentage. Australia tops the table with seven wins and one loss from eight matches, boasting 87.50% points. New Zealand occupies the second spot with two wins and one draw from three matches, holding 77.78% points. At the end of this cycle, the top two teams will face each other in the final.
Bangladesh clinched victory in the first session of the final day of the Test match in Sylhet today. Following a period of intense tension and a fierce battle, the Tigers secured their win early in the morning as soon as they broke the partnership between Mohammad Rizwan and Sajid Khan. With this 78-run victory, Bangladesh has whitewashed Pakistan in a Test series twice within two years—first on Pakistani soil in 2024, and now on home turf.
