Ever tried eating bamboo? what about bamboo leaf tea?

The National Tree Fair has introduced a unique beverage for tea lovers. Visitors to the ongoing National Tree Plantation Campaign and Tree Fair 2026 at Agargaon in the capital can enjoy bamboo leaf tea.

At Stall Nos. 24 and 25, an organization named Quantum Bamburian is showcasing 60 species of local and foreign bamboo saplings, various bamboo made products, and bamboo leaf tea. The organization has come from Lama in Bandarban.

The organization’s curator, Saifuddin Saif, said bamboo leaf tea is quite popular in China. They are trying to introduce it in Bangladesh after taking inspiration from there. He claimed that bamboo leaves contain components such as antioxidants and silica, which may be beneficial for the body.

“About 6,500 people were served this tea at last year’s tree fair. At present, the tea is made from the leaves of a Chinese species of bamboo, but there are plans to work with the leaves of native bamboo species in the future,” he added.

In addition to tea, the fair is also selling various eco friendly bamboo products, including bottles, mugs, flower vases, mobile phone stands, and file holders. Their goal is to encourage people to use these products as an alternative to plastic.

Saifuddin Saif said, ‘Bamboo should not be viewed only in a negative sense. It should be considered an industrial and environmentally friendly resource. Furniture, paper, handicrafts, and many other products can be made from bamboo.’

“They have a collection of about 210 species of bamboo and 110 species of endangered forest trees. Saplings of rare species of bamboo and trees are also being displayed for visitors at the fair,”he added.
