Formation of Bogra City Corporation, 5 New Upazilas Approved

Bogra City Corporation is going to be founded as the 13th city corporation of the country. Simultaneously, five new upazilas have also been formed.

The 120th meeting of the National Implementation Committee for Administrative Reorganization (NICAR) was held this Thursday afternoon at the Secretariat, presided over by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. The meeting granted approval for the new city corporation and five upazilas.

According to the Prime Minister's Press Wing, the meeting approved the formation of Bogra City Corporation. Additionally, the new upazilas formed are 'Mokamtala' by dividing Bogra's Shibganj upazila; 'Matamuhuri' by dividing Cox's Bazar's Chakaria upazila; 'Ruhia' and 'Bhulli' by dividing Thakurgaon Sadar upazila; and 'Chandraganj' by dividing Lakshmipur Sadar upazila.

The existing 12 city corporations are Dhaka North City Corporation, Dhaka South City Corporation, Chattogram City Corporation, Khulna City Corporation, Rajshahi City Corporation, Barishal City Corporation, Sylhet City Corporation, Narayanganj City Corporation, Cumilla City Corporation, Rangpur City Corporation, Gazipur City Corporation, and Mymensingh City Corporation.
