35 Bangladeshis die while performing Hajj in Saudi Arabia

This year, 35 Bangladeshi pilgrims have died while performing Hajj in Saudi Arabia (Inna Lillahi wa Inna Ilayhi Raji'un). Among the deceased, 22 were men and 13 were women. Of them, 25 died in Makkah and 10 in Madinah. The most recent death occurred on May 29 — Tania Sharmin (45) from Pakundia, Kishoreganj.

According to death-related data from the Hajj Management Portal of the Ministry of Religious Affairs on Saturday (May 30), this information has been revealed.

Portal sources indicate that the first death during this year's Hajj occurred on April 21. On that day, Md. Noim Uddin Mondol (75) from Joypurhat Sadar passed away. Subsequently, on April 22, Md. Abul Kashem (70) from Tangail Sadar; on April 25, Md. Sirajul Haque (66) from Pagla, Mymensingh; and on April 26, Md. Khalilur Rahman (64) from Birampur, Dinajpur died.
Additionally, on April 27, Md. Abdullah Al Mamun (58) from Sribardi, Sherpur, and Md. Abdul Hai (61) from Madarganj, Jamalpur; on April 28, Md. Shamsul Alam (63) from Rangpur Kotwali Metro; on May 3, Mahfuja Begum (52) from Chapainawabganj Sadar Model and Md. Nasiruddin Biswas (58) from Faridpur Sadar; on May 4, Mocha. Nilufa Begum (57) from Haripur, Thakurgaon; on May 8, Md. Azharul Haque (64) from Nawabganj, Dinajpur, and Md. Abdul Matin (54) from Jessore Kotwali died.

Later, on May 11, Nusrat Sharmin (62) from Savar, Dhaka; on May 12, Nasrin Jahan (37) from Gazipur Sadar; on May 15, Md. A. Majid (75) from Gopalpur, Tangail; on May 16, N. M. Monirul Haque (44) from Tejgaon, Dhaka; on May 17, Sajeda Begum (56) from Sonagazi, Feni; on May 18, Md. Azizur Rahman (66) from Shibpur, Narsingdi; on May 20, Md. Kamal Hossain (61) from Daulatpur, Kushtia, and Md. Zakir Hossain (62) from Belkuchi, Sirajganj; and on May 21, Sultana Chowdhury (79) from Begumganj, Noakhali died.Here is the English version of the additional information you provided, continuing from the previous report:

On May 22, three more pilgrims died. They were: Mohammad Nazrul Islam (61) from Rangunia, Chattogram; Saleha Begum (50) from Tarail, Kishoreganj; and Kazi Md. Gias Uddin (72) from Mohammadpur, Dhaka. On May 23, three also passed away: Mosha. Hashina Begum (66) from Trishal, Mymensingh; Fatema Begum (78) from Keraniganj, Dhaka; and Nur Uddin Sheikh (72) from Sonadanga Model, Khulna.

On May 24, Md. Harun-or-Rashid (68) from Raipura, Narsingdi died. On May 25, three died: Md. Abdur Rahman (61) from Kazipur, Sirajganj; Md. Arfan Ali (75) from Shibganj, Chapainawabganj; and Md. A. Karim (74) from Bogura Sadar. On May 26, Shammy Akter (45) from Sonadanga Model, Khulna, and Khorsheda Begum (54) from Debiddar, Cumilla died. On May 27, Farida Ekram (68) from Hazaribagh, Dhaka passed away.

According to Saudi Arabian law, if someone dies while performing Hajj, the body is buried there. Bringing the body back to one's home country is not permitted. Even the family's objection is not accepted.

Earlier in 2025, 86,981 Bangladeshi pilgrims went to Saudi Arabia. Among them, 48 died. In 2024, out of 85,257 pilgrims, 65 died.

Additionally, in 2023, 122,558 Bangladeshi pilgrims went to Saudi Arabia, and 121 died that year. In 2022, out of 60,146 pilgrims, 26 died.

According to the data, the highest number of deaths among Bangladeshi Hajj pilgrims in recent years occurred in 2023. As this year's Hajj activities have not yet concluded, the death toll may change further.
