Dinesh Trivedi, a former Indian Union Minister and BJP leader, has been appointed as the new High Commissioner of India to Dhaka.
The information was confirmed on Monday through a notice on the official website of the Indian Ministry of External Affairs. The notification said that he is expected to assume his duties shortly.
Dinesh Trivedi will succeed Pranay Verma in Dhaka. Pranay Verma has already been appointed as India’s Ambassador to the European Union in Brussels.
During the UPA coalition government, Dinesh Trivedi served as the Union Minister for Railways and as the Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare as a member of the Trinamool Congress (TMC). He resigned from the TMC on February 12, 2021, and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on March 6 of the same year.
