'India not involved in Sheikh Hasina's press conference'

Ousted Prime Minister and Awami League (currently banned from activities) President Sheikh Hasina is set to participate in a press conference in New Delhi, India, tomorrow. She will join virtually for the first time in two years. However, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, has insisted that the Indian government has no involvement whatsoever in this event.
He made this statement while briefing the media today (Tuesday), in response to a question.
When asked about Sheikh Hasina's scheduled address in Delhi on August 5, Jaiswal said, "India is in no way associated with this process. The discussion you are referring to is being organised by a private media outlet. The government has no connection to it. Furthermore, the government does not endorse any opinions that may be expressed on that platform."
Meanwhile, Jaiswal confirmed that since February this year, in addition to a bilateral invitation, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has been invited to attend the BRICS summit as the chair of BIMSTEC. The next BRICS summit is scheduled to be held in Delhi in September.
Jaiswal said, "A formal invitation for a bilateral visit to India was sent to the Prime Minister of Bangladesh after he assumed office in February 2026."
Regarding the BRICS summit, he said, "Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has been invited in accordance with the established rules for the BRICS outreach sessions. Similarly, heads of other regional organisations have also been invited."
