BSF apprehends Bangladeshi farmer, locals detain two Indian nationals in Protest

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) exchanged detained citizens following a flag meeting in Meherpur, after a Bangladeshi farmer was picked up by BSF personnel near the Ichakhali border.
The incident occurred around 8:30 AM on Tuesday at the Ichakhali border in Meherpur Sadar Upazila. By 2:00 PM, both the border forces safely repatriated their respective citizens after holding a formal flag meeting.
Subedar Hasan Ali, Ichakhali Camp Commander, led the delegation for BGB, while the camp commander of the Nabachandrapur BSF post represented the Indian side. Lieutenant Colonel Najmul Hasan, Commanding Officer of Chuadanga 6 BGB Battalion, confirmed the details of the resolution.
According to local people, Md. Abdul Hannan (60), son of the late Nur Ahmed of Ichakhali village, was tending to his land near border pillar 124/3 S when a patrol team of Nabachandrapur BSF camp picked him up and took him across the border.
As news of the incident spread, Hannan's family members and local villagers gathered at the border. In retaliation, they detained two Indian nationals who were farming nearby—Sachin Das (65), son of Manmohan Das, and Ratan Biswas (35), son of Kunju Biswas—and handed them over to the Ichakhali BGB camp. Both individuals reside in Lalbazar village under Tehatta Police Station in Nadia district, West Bengal.
Lieutenant Colonel Najmul Hasan said that border officials held an official flag meeting at noon to resolve the matter, resulting in the successful return of the Bangladeshi citizen and the handover of the two Indian nationals.
