BSF open gunshots injuring two Indian nationals, leave them in Bangladesh

Two Indian nationals take treatment at Rangpur Medical College and Hospital after being shot by BSF at Kurigram border.
India’s Border Security Force (BSF) allegedly shot two Indian nationals after torturing them and mistaking them for Bangladeshi citizens. The two injured Indian nationals are currently receiving treatment at Rangpur Medical College Hospital.
They said their homes are in India’s Assam state. Brigadier General Ashikur Rahman, director of Rangpur Medical College Hospital, confirmed the matter Monday afternoon.
He said the two Indian nationals are currently undergoing treatment at the hospital’s surgery department with gunshot injuries. All necessary medical treatment is being provided to them.
The two injured men identified themselves as Abdul Alim and Ismail. They said they were grazing cattle in a field when the BSF fired shotgun pellets at them after they came close to the Bangladesh border. Despite repeatedly identifying themselves as Indian citizens, they said they were subjected to inhumane torture. The BSF then left them, injured, near the Kurigram border.
The incident took place Sunday afternoon. Later, several fishermen from the vicinity of the Kurigram border rescued them and initially took them to a private clinic. They were later admitted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital at around 2 a.m.
The victims said they are Muslims and their homes are in Assam, India. They also said they have all the documents proving their Indian citizenship. However, it has not yet been possible to contact their families.
