US Ambassador impressed by seeing floating guava market in Jhalakathi

US Ambassador to Bangladesh, Brent T. Christensen, expressed his admiration after visiting the traditional floating guava market and guava orchards in Bheemruli, Jhalakathi.
On Sunday morning, accompanied by his wife, Dian Dow, he toured the floating guava market and various guava orchards in the Bheemruli area. During the visit, he spoke with local guava growers and orchard owners, learning from them about guava cultivation, production, and marketing.
After the visit, the Ambassador said, "I am captivated by the natural beauty of Bheemruli and its traditional floating guava market. The vibrancy of the market, the hard work of the farmers, and the quality of the guavas produced here have also impressed me."
He added that guavas are also cultivated in warm and tropical regions of the United States, including Florida, Hawaii, and parts of California. He noted that there is potential for exporting guavas from Bangladesh to the US and other international markets. He also mentioned that he would discuss this matter with his government and relevant ministries.
The floating guava market of Bheemruli is one of the most traditional agricultural tourism centers in the southern region of Bangladesh. During the monsoon season, the scene of guava trading on boats via canals and waterways attracts tourists from home and abroad. Orchard owners said that the Ambassador's visit has greatly encouraged local guava farmers.
