Fire breaks out at Pakistan High Commissioner's residence in Baridhara

A fire broke out at the official residence of the Pakistan High Commissioner in Dhaka's Baridhara vicinity. The Fire Service suspects that the fire could have originated from a short circuit in the TV room of the residence.
The fire started around 4:56 AM on Thursday (August 6). Upon receiving the news, two units of the Fire Service rushed to the scene and brought the fire under control within 10 minutes.
High Commissioner Imran Haider and his wife Naima Imran fell ill due to smoke inhalation. They were later taken to Continental Hospital in Gulshan for medical treatment.
Fire Service and Civil Defense Department Media Cell official Anwarul Islam confirmed the matter on Thursday night.
He said that after receiving the news, two Fire Service units went to the scene and brought the fire under control within 10 minutes. The fire originated in the TV room of the residence. Some furniture in that room was burned. However, there was no major damage. The Fire Service fully brought the fire under control at 5:20 AM.
"There was more smoke than fire in the room. Later, the fire was extinguished using water from buckets and mugs. The Fire Service inspected the entire building and removed smoke using special equipment. Initially, it is believed that the fire started due to an electrical malfunction in the television," Anwarul added.
It has been learned that the Pakistan High Commissioner and his wife were comparatively well during and after the fire was brought under control. However, due to excessive smoke inhalation, they fell ill and were admitted to Continental Hospital in Gulshan around 9 AM. Hospital sources said that both of them are currently in stable condition.
