The Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) has strengthened security measures across all airports in the country. This follows intelligence warnings regarding potential militant attacks on various key installations.
The Chairman of CAAB, Air Vice Marshal Md. Mostafa Mahmud, confirmed the news this Monday.
According to sources, the Police Headquarters recently sent a cautionary letter to airport authorities. In response, CAAB issued a high-level security alert.
Consequently, surveillance has been increased at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport’s critical infrastructure. Security has also been bolstered around vital installations at other airports across the nation.
CAAB sources stated that intelligence monitoring has been intensified at airports to counter all types of security threats. Additionally, law enforcement agencies have ramped up searches in both the arrival and departure areas of the terminals.
The letter from Police Headquarters previously noted that information had been received regarding a sabotage plan by members of a banned extremist organization. Their potential targets include the National Parliament building, law enforcement installations, religious sites, and important public gathering spots.
Meanwhile, law enforcement agencies have stated that operations are underway to identify and bring those involved in the attack planning to justice.
