Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has invited Bangladeshi Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to participate in the upcoming BRICS summit in September. State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam told journalists about this development on Thursday during a briefing at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The junior minister said the invitation letter for the visit to India has arrived at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and has been forwarded to the Prime Minister's Office.

The 18th BRICS summit is scheduled to be held on September 12 and 13 in New Delhi. Although Bangladesh is not a member state of BRICS, Prime Minister Tarek Rahman has been invited by the Indian Prime Minister to attend the summit as a special guest.

During the briefing, when asked about the student movement in India, Shama Obaed said, "Bangladesh is a democratic state. We want stability and peace to prevail in our region. We hope that India, as the world's largest democratic government, will consider the position of its people and move forward swiftly to resolve the issues."
