Autumn has arrived on the calendar with the first day of Bhadra. However, with the change of season, the weather is showing a varied mix of sunshine and clouds.

Today, sudden rain and sunshine may occur in different parts of the country, while cloud cover is expected to be heavier in the southern and coastal areas. Rainfall is likely to be more frequent in the southern parts of Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram divisions.

The private weather agency Bangladesh Weather Observation Team Limited provided the information.

According to the weather forecast, a low-pressure system is currently positioned over southern West Bengal. Under its influence, the northern Bay of Bengal is relatively rough, prompting authorities to hoist warning signal No. 3.

Heavy rainfall is forecast today in coastal areas and the southern parts of the country. Heavy rain is particularly likely in Satkhira, Khulna, Bagerhat, Pirojpur, Barguna, Bhola, Patuakhali, Cox’s Bazar and the southern part of Bandarban.

Meanwhile, scattered or isolated rain may occur in some areas of Dhaka, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Rangpur and Sylhet divisions.

There is currently no active rain belt in the country. Although rainfall is expected in the southern parts of the country from August 16 to 18, no new rain belt is being declared because the overall amount of rainfall is expected to remain relatively low. However, temporary gusty winds may occur in some places when rain begins.

There is also a risk of moderate lightning in the northeastern region and the Chittagong Hill Tracts. People have therefore been advised to remain cautious when they hear thunder.

In terms of temperature, the northern parts of the country may feel somewhat hot, although daytime temperatures could fall slightly. However, temperatures may temporarily rise in one or two places in Rangpur, Rajshahi and Sylhet divisions, potentially developing into a mild heat wave. During breaks in rainfall, humidity may cause sultry conditions in some areas, although this discomfort is expected to be somewhat lower in the southern parts of the country.

In the 24 hours until 6 pm on August 15, the country recorded a maximum of 12 millimeters of rainfall jointly in Hatiya and Bandarban. During this period, the highest temperature in the country was 35.8 degrees Celsius in Syedpur, while the lowest was 24.4 degrees Celsius in Bandarban.

Today, August 16, sunrise in Dhaka was at 5:34 am, and sunset will be at 6:31 pm.
