When Will the Rain Stop?

Flood situations have emerged in several districts after days of continuous rainfall
Several days of heavy rainfall have caused waterlogging and flood situations in different parts of the country. The situation has increased public suffering and caused loss of lives.
According to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department’s forecast for the next 24 hours, many places in the Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions, and some places in the Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram divisions may experience temporary gusty winds accompanied by light to moderate rain or thundershowers. At the same time, some places in the Chattogram Division may experience heavy to very heavy rainfall.
The Bangladesh Meteorological Department said rainfall may continue in different parts of the country over the next two days, namely Monday and Tuesday. From Tuesday onward, the rainfall trend may decrease significantly, and conditions may begin to improve in most areas of the country.
Meteorologist A K M Nazmul Hoque told reporters, “Over the past three to five days, the highest rainfall in the country occurred in the Chattogram and Sylhet divisions. However, the intensity of the rainfall has decreased somewhat over the past 24 hours.”
Meanwhile, although the extent of rainfall has declined compared with the past few days, water levels in various rivers across the country remain elevated. Concerned officials believe that, particularly in the northern, northeastern and hilly regions, locally heavy rainfall may continue to increase river water levels and cause waterlogging in some areas.
Meanwhile, due to strong winds over the sea, the weather office on Saturday withdrew Local Cautionary Signal No. 3 that had been issued for the country’s four seaports. The landslide warning has also already been withdrawn.
