Popular filmmaker FI Manik has suffered a broken arm after being hit by a microbus.
The accident occurred late last night while he was returning to his Niketan residence from his ancestral home in Dhanmondi. While waiting for a bus near Karwan Bazar, he could not find one and began walking toward the FDC area to get some vehicle.
Before reaching the Karwan Bazar rail gate, a microbus hit him from behind. He was thrown against a flyover pillar, resulting in a fractured arm. He was rescued and taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where his arm was scheduled to be put in a plaster this afternoon.
Speaking to Agamir Somoy on Tuesday morning, FI Manik said the accident took place around 1:00 am in front of Sonargaon Hotel. He said he was returning to Niketan from Dhanmondi and had been waiting for transport near Petrobangla before moving a little ahead eastward, when a microbus struck him from behind.
“I was thrown onto the road. If I hadn’t fallen a little away, I might have been crushed,” he said. “I narrowly escaped death. I then called my colleague Badshah, who came and took me to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital.”
FI Manik is the director of several superhit films, including Chacchu, Dadima, Koti Takar Kabin, Pitar Asan, Dui Bodhu Ek Swami, and Manna Bhai, among others.
