A court in Dhaka has issued an arrest warrant against actress Pori Moni in a case over allegations of assaulting businessman Nasir Uddin Mahmud, vandalism and criminal intimidation.
Acting Judge Mahfuzur Rahman of the Dhaka Senior Judicial Magistrate Court issued the order on Wednesday.
The case was scheduled for witness testimony on the day. However, Pori Moni did not appear before the court and instead filed a petition seeking time through her lawyer, Nilanjana Rifat Suravi.
The petition said that Pori Moni was ill due to an allergy and, was therefore, unable to appear before the court.
Meanwhile, the complainant’s lawyer, Abul Kalam Mohammad Sohel, opposed the application and sought the cancellation of her bail. The application alleged that the accused was deliberately seeking adjournments by failing to appear before the court, wasting the court’s valuable time.
The court subsequently rejected the petition for time and issued the arrest warrant. It also fixed December 23 for the next date to record witness testimony.
Earlier, the trial began on June 26, 2025, after charges were formally framed. An arrest warrant was issued against her at the time because she did not show up. She surrendered before the court the following day, June 27, and was granted bail.
Nasir Uddin Mahmud, a director of the Savar Boat Club in Dhaka, filed the case on July 6, 2022.
After finding evidence supporting allegations of assault, vandalism and intimidation against Nasir Uddin Mahmud, the investigating officer in the case, Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) Inspector Md Monir Hossain of Dhaka district, submitted an investigation report to the court on March 18, 2024.
The report accused Pori Moni and Junaid Bogdadi Jimmy. However, investigators found no specific allegations against Fatema Tuz Jannat Boni.
On April 18 of the same year, the court accepted the PBI investigation report and issued a summons requiring Pori Moni to appear before the court.
According to the investigation report, on the night of June 8, 2021, accused Pori Moni allegedly developed a relationship with complainant Nasir Mahmud after luring him with dishonest intentions. The report said she became angry after being unable to obtain, free of charge and in violation of the rules of the Dhaka Boat Club, a three-litre parcel of Blue Label liquor.
The report alleged that she then threatened the complainant and deliberately threw an ashtray at him, causing a swollen injury to the right side of his head above his ear.
It further said that pieces of broken glass allegedly thrown by the accused caused scratch-like injuries and red marks on the complainant’s chest. The report also alleged that glasses, glass bottles and ashtrays were thrown around inside the club’s bar, causing disorder and vandalism.
The PBI investigation found preliminary evidence supporting allegations that Pori Moni had committed offences under Sections 323 and 506 of the relevant law, according to the charges brought by the complainant.
The investigation report further said that when the disturbance continued inside the bar, complainant Nasir asked witness Tuhin Siddiqui to tell the accused to leave the bar.
At that point, the report alleged, accused Junaid Bogdadi Jimmy charged at Nasir Mahmud, verbally abused and threatened him, and punched and hit him two or three times.
The investigation found preliminary evidence supporting allegations that Jimmy had committed offences under Sections 323 and 506, according to the complaint filed by Nasir Mahmud.
Although accused Fatema Tuz Jannat Boni was present at the scene at the time of the incident, investigators said they found no specific evidence or testimony supporting the allegations against her.
