Bank account details of content creator Salman Muqtadir sought

The Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU), the country’s financial intelligence agency, has sought information on the bank accounts of widely discussed content creator Salman Muqtadir.

The BFIU sent letters to all banks and financial institutions in the country on Wednesday. Several banks have confirmed receiving the letters.

The letter asked banks and financial institutions to collect and send the BFIU information on bank accounts held in Salman Muqtadir’s name, account opening forms, Know Your Customer (KYC) documents and transaction statements along with other relevant information. They were given 30 minutes to send the information.

Earlier, Salman Muqtadir’s ‘Brown Fish’ studio was attacked, vandalized and looted on the night of September 26.

Following the attack, Salman alleged on Facebook Live that BNP activists were involved in the incident. He said, “Those BNP people who are doing this, this is your extortion. Why are you destroying my dream?”

The following day, Sunday, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed expressed displeasure over Salman Muqtadir’s remarks involving the BNP. He said, “On one hand, he (Salman Muqtadir) said on live that no one had asked him for extortion money and that he would have paid if someone had asked. On the other hand, he called the BNP an extortionist party. There is no basis for such a statement. His remarks have created controversy.”
