It has been alleged that popular actor Mosharraf Karim, widely loved in both Bengals, was confronted by a group of individuals in Kolkata. His wife, actress Robena Reza Jui, was also with him at the time. However, the actor has said that the incident is not being presented accurately and that nothing of the sort actually happened.
Meanwhile, NCP leader and former adviser Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan has claimed that it was an attack by the Awami League. He made the statement in a Facebook post.
In the post, he shared a video from 1 August 2024 and wrote, “The situation has reached a point where there is no option to stay at home. On 1 August 2024, actor Mosharraf Karim took a clear stance in support of students’ historic nine-point demands.”
He further wrote, “The attack on Mosharraf Karim by the fugitive Awami League proves that the associates of fascism have still not moved away from politics of hatred and violence. Even outside the country, they continue to pose a threat to Bangladeshis.”
However, speaking to Agamir Somoy, Mosharraf Karim said, “Nothing happened that is worth writing about. The way it is being spread on social media is not accurate. There is no incident significant enough to report.”
On Tuesday afternoon, Agamir Somoy spoke to Mosharraf Karim over WhatsApp. He said, “Several of our friends are here. I came to meet them and spend some time. As you know, I like travelling. I am not here for any film shooting. I will return to Dhaka within three or four days.”
While he did not completely deny the incident, Mosharraf Karim added, “People exaggerate things on Facebook. But there is not enough substance in this incident to write a news report. In reality, nothing significant happened.”
Meanwhile, the NCP leader condemned the incident, calling it a cowardly attack by associates of the fugitive Awami League. He also urged the government to take action.
On social media, various claims circulated, including that “Mosharraf Karim was attacked in Kolkata” and that “Mosharraf Karim faced an aggressive crowd in Kolkata.”
