Why Rashami Desai disappeared from television for four years

Rashami Desai

Does working in the television industry mean repeatedly being labeled as an actor whose career is over? Popular actress Rashami Desai is set to return to television after a four-year break. In a recent interview with The Indian Express, she opened up about the difficult days of her career.

Just before her return to the screen through Star Plus’s new show Sayoni, she revealed how she was once labeled as an “overexposed” or finished face.

Asked why she had disappeared from the screen for three to four years, Rashami said, “I took a break intentionally. Television involves a long-term commitment without a break. I wanted to learn some things in a new way and work on myself. But people misunderstood and thought my career was over.”

Speaking about the negative comments she faced at the time, Rashami added, “Many people told me directly that I was an overexposed face and that my career was over. People forget that television gives us a huge platform that no other medium can offer. Yet television actors have to face various taboos and stereotypes.”

The actress also expressed strong resentment toward the tendency in the showbiz industry to use women merely as objects of glamour or visual appeal. Rashami said, “In many projects, women are used only to make them look sexy or beautiful, which is extremely wrong. A female artist is much more than that. Those who work hard to establish themselves deserve proper respect.”
