Among the country's popular celebrities, actress Pori Moni has set a new milestone in the number of Facebook followers. Surpassing cricketer Shakib Al Hasan, who had long held the top spot on this list, she is now the owner of the highest number of Facebook followers.
Currently, Pori Moni has over 1 crore 70 lakh (17 million) Facebook followers. Shakib Al Hasan, on the other hand, has over 1 crore 60 lakh (16 million) followers. As a result, among Bangladeshi celebrities, this actress now ranks first in terms of follower count on social media platform Facebook. However, the statistics of her acting career paint a different picture.
Over a career spanning nearly 12 years, although around two dozen of Pori Moni's films have been released, none of them have managed to secure a place on the list of major commercial successes. However, due to her personal life, active presence on social media, and various controversial incidents, she has always remained at the center of citizens' and netizens' attention.
According to film industry insiders, a major reason for Pori Moni's popularity is her regular presence on social media. She shares various moments from her personal life—travel, her child's upbringing, photoshoots, news of new projects, and even small daily experiences—with her followers.
As a result, she has developed a close connection with her fans. This was reflected in her recent posts. Last Sunday, she shared a video of her daughter's playful antics with the caption, "Sajuni buri dekhen" (a playful Bangla phrase, roughly meaning "Look at the little old lady"), accompanied by a love emoji. Within just 22 hours, the video garnered over 78,000 reactions, nearly 2,000 comments, and approximately 1.5 million views.
The tussle between Pori Moni and Shakib Al Hasan for the top spot in Facebook followers is not new. About three years ago, their follower counts first became nearly equal. Later, in August 2023, Shakib pulled ahead again. Within a gap of a few months, both crossed the milestone of 1 crore 60 lakh (16 million) followers. However, recently widening the gap, Pori Moni has now single-handedly secured the top position.
