Where was Don on the day Salman Shah died?

The mystery surrounding the death of film actor Salman Shah has once again come under discussion. As the case has been reopened for investigation as a murder case, a number of old pieces of information and testimonies have resurfaced. Villain actor Ashraful Haque Don, one of the accused in the case, has also come into focus. He has already been arrested.

A court concerned had imposed a travel ban on the accused in the Salman Shah murder case. However, Don was arrested at the airport while attempting to leave the country. Meanwhile, a segment from an interview Don gave five years ago on Shahriar Nazim Joy’s popular program “Sense of Humor” has recently gone viral again.

In that interview, Joy directly asked Don, “Who could be the reason behind Salman brother’s suicide? His mother or his wife?” In response, Don said, “That was entirely a family matter. Salman was very upset mentally.”

In the interview, he also spoke about his whereabouts at the time, saying, “It was Friday that day. I was in Bogura then. In the morning, I was cooking khichuri on a boat with the younger brothers from my area. As soon as we brought the boat to the dock, I saw people shouting, ‘Don brother, you are here! Salman Shah has died.’ I still could not believe it. I thought maybe he had been in a car accident. Because Salman was a very good driver, absolutely an expert.”

“Later in the evening, I learned from the news on television that Salman had died at home. That was when I thought there must have been some problem. Because his death did not seem natural,” Don added.

Meanwhile, a court rejected the bail petition of villain actor Ashraful Haque Don, who was arrested the previous day. On Wednesday, August 12, after a hearing, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Ehsanul Islam issued the order.

On that day, several lawyers, including M Faridul Islam and Tarikul Islam Jewel, filed a bail petition on behalf of Don. The bail petition stated that there was no specific allegation against the detained accused Don in the first information report or the arrest forwarding report. It also said he was not involved in the alleged incident.

Metropolitan Public Prosecutor Omar Faruk Faruqi opposed Don’s bail and presented arguments against it on behalf of the state. The court later rejected his bail petition.

Earlier, on August 9, CID Inspector Arifur Rahman produced him before the court and sought an order to keep him in jail.

Legendary Dhallywood actor Salman Shah died under mysterious circumstances on December 6, 1996. His wife Samira Haque is the principal accused in the murder case. Others named as accused include Aziz Mohammad Bhai, Latifa Haque Lucy, David, Javed, Faruk, Ruby, Abdus Sattar, Saju, Rezvi Ahmed Farhad and Ashraful Haque Don.
