Actress Pori Moni was stuck in a traffic jam on her way to court to testify in a sexual harassment case. As a result, she could not appear before Dhaka's Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-9 at the scheduled time. The court subsequently set November 30 as the new date for her cross-examination.
Judge Shahadat Hossain Bhuiya of Dhaka's Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-9 fixed the date today (Sunday).
Nilafjna Rifat Surabhi, the lawyer for the plaintiff, said that the hearing was scheduled for 12:00 PM. However, due to being trapped in traffic, Pori Moni could not reach the court on time. Meanwhile, two of the accused appeared in court and left. The other accused, Shahidul Alam, filed a petition seeking time. The court then set November 30 for Pori Moni's cross-examination.
The accused in the case are businessman Nasir Uddin Mahmud, Tuhin Siddiqui Omi, and Shahidul Alam.
According to case documents, on June 14, 2021, Pori Moni filed a case at Savar Police Station accusing Nasir Uddin Mahmud and his friend Omi by name, along with four unnamed others, on charges of attempted rape and attempted murder. After the investigation, on September 6 of that year, investigating officer Kamal Hossain submitted a charge sheet against the three individuals to the court.
The trial of the case began on May 18, 2022, when charges were framed against the three accused. On November 29 of that year, the recording of testimony began with Pori Moni's partial deposition.
On July 24, 2023, Pori Moni hesitated to testify in court. Subsequently, her lawyer filed an application to conduct the proceedings through a camera trial, which the court approved. Later, on September 22, 2024, the recording of Pori Moni's testimony in the case was completed.
