Popular actor Mosharraf Karim has won the Best Actor award for his acclaimed performance in the Modern Bangla Hotel series on streaming platform Chorki.
The award was presented to him on Thursday at a five-star hotel in Dhaka in recognition of his performance in the series.
Expressing his delight after receiving the honor, Mosharraf said the series featured a compelling and surprising story.
“It was an enjoyable project. I had a wonderful experience working with the talented young director Kazi Asad. I am grateful to everyone involved in the production, and I thank Chorki for recognizing my work with this award,” he said.
Meanwhile, the versatile actor has also been appointed chief juror for the first edition of the tri-nation international film festival Babhasi, featuring entries from Bangladesh, India, and Singapore.
Speaking about his new role, Mosharraf said it is the first time in his long career that he has served as a judge.
“Being a judge may sound simple, but it carries a great deal of responsibility. Whatever I do, I always try to give my best. Babhasi is an excellent platform that provides opportunities for emerging talents to showcase their creativity,” he said.
This year’s festival received 75 film submissions from different countries. After the initial screening, 52 films were selected, with the jury later narrowing the list to 16 films for the second round. The final competition will feature seven films.
According to the organizers, the festival is expected to be held at the World Literature Center and the Central Kochi-Kachar Mela venue in Dhaka. The winners of the first, second, and third prizes will be announced on July 30.
