Actress Pori Moni appears in court to seek bail

Actress Pori Moni has come to court to seek bail after an arrest warrant was issued against her in a case over assaulting and threatening businessman Nasir Uddin Mahmud.

The hearing is scheduled today, Thursday, in the court of Dhaka Senior Judicial Magistrate Mahfuzur Rahman.

Four years ago, Nasir Uddin, a director of Dhaka Boat Club in Uttara, filed the case at Savar Police Station, alleging assault, vandalism, and threats.

Earlier, Pori Moni had filed a case against Nasir Uddin alleging attempted rape and attempted murder. The trial of that case is ongoing in the Dhaka Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal.

Wednesday was set for taking testimony in the case filed by Nasir. Pori Moni did not appear in court and instead sought time through her lawyer, Nilanjana Rifat Surovi.

The application said that Pori Moni was ill due to an allergy. For this reason, she could not appear in court.

Objecting to the accused's application, the plaintiff's lawyer, Abul Kalam Mohammad Sohail, filed an application seeking cancellation of bail.

He said that the accused, Pori Moni, deliberately did not appear in court and filed a time petition. This wastes the court's valuable time.

Later, the court rejected Pori Moni's application and issued an arrest warrant. At the same time, it set December 23 as the new date for taking testimony in the case.

The trial in the case began on June 26, 2025, with the framing of charges. However, because she did not appear that day, an arrest warrant was issued against Pori Moni. The next day, June 27, she surrendered in court and obtained bail.

The incident originated on the night of June 8, 2021, after Pori Moni went to the boat club. A few days later, the actress appeared at a press conference and claimed that on that night, an attempt was made to rape her at the boat club as well as to kill her.

After Pori Moni filed a case on June 13, Nasir was arrested. He was later released on bail.

In the same incident, the following year — on July 6, 2022 — Nasir filed a case in court. His allegation was that Pori Moni went to the boat club and assaulted and threatened him.

Investigating this case, Inspector Md. Monir Hossain of the Dhaka District PBI submitted a charge sheet to the court on March 18, 2024. In it, Pori Moni and her associate Junaid Bogdadi Jimmie were made accused.

The investigation report said that on the night of June 8, 2021, Pori Moni, with dishonest intent, set a trap for the plaintiff Nasir Mahmud, established a good rapport with him, and, having failed to take a parcel of three liters of Blue Label liquor free of charge in violation of Dhaka Boat Club's rules, became angry with the plaintiff and threatened him. Pori Moni threw an ashtray at the plaintiff, hitting him on the head above his right ear. She also vandalized the inside of the club's bar.

The investigation report further said that when Junaid Bogdadi Jimmie was obstructed during the rampage inside the bar, he rushed forward and punched and kicked the plaintiff, Nasir Mahmud.
