Dhallywood actress Sadika Parvin Popy is mourning a profound and irreparable loss. Her mother, Mariam Begum, has passed away. She breathed her last while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Moghbazar in the capital on Tuesday night.
Popular Dhallywood actor Omar Sani confirmed the heartbreaking news of Popy’s mother’s sudden death on social media.
Omar Sani announced the news in a post on his verified Facebook account today. Referring to his close family ties with Popy’s family, he wrote, “Moushumi and Popy are first cousins, and through that relationship, Popy’s mother is also my mother-in-law. I had always called her Amma since 1997. She has left this world behind. May Allah grant her Jannah. We are continuously losing our elders. Then it will be my turn to go.”
Meanwhile, film director Badiul Alam Khokon told the media that Mariam Begum’s first funeral prayer will be held in Dhaka. Her relatives will then take her body to Popy’s ancestral home in Khulna. After the second funeral prayer there, she will be buried in the family graveyard.
Actress Popy, who has remained out of the public eye, entered the entertainment industry in 1997 after winning the Lux Ananda Bichitra beauty pageant. That same year, she began her acting career with Amar Ghor Amar Beheshot, directed by Sohanur Rahman Sohan. However, Coolie, directed by Montazur Rahman Akbar, was her first film to be released.
The blockbuster film, which starred Omar Sani opposite Popy, earned around Tk 7 crore at the time, setting a major milestone in Dhallywood history.
